A downloadable game

A game about rival candy store owners competing against each other. Through candy-based rolls, players attempt to keep their business afloat through wacky retail events, and compete and interact with one another in order to get through to the end of the year. With a lighthearted and mischievous tone, players can work together to sabotage others or save each other to reach their store’s anniversary parties.

I created this game because I missed some of the playground and board games I used to play when I was younger. They often involved lighthearted banter during play even if we were ‘enemies’, and I wanted to involve that in my own game. I also wanted people to have a chance to have a snack together.

I used cooking, one of my Magpie Book’s joys, as my starting point. I liked the idea of being able to eat while playing a TTRPG and so I folded it into the mechanics. However, it was a bit difficult for me to choose because a lot of the time I come up with the bulk of my ideas on the spot rather than in advance.

For themes, I mixed together the mechanics and the subject matter. If players are picking and eating candy as a means to progress, the story they are telling should also center around it. It also sets the tone as a more casual roleplaying game. Visually, I wanted to involve a lot of pinks, whites, and purples to fit with the game’s candy shop theme.

For this game, I hope players enjoy some candy and have a bit of fun talking with friendly people.
